Lively Kilpauk is a residential area featuring fast-food and Indian restaurants lining busy Ormes and Kilpauk Garden roads, as well as fashion and souvenir shops. The intricate Votive Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Roman Catholic church from the 1950s, and the Kilpauk Water Works is situated in a historic redbrick building in the colonial Indo-Gothic style. Kilpauk's closest train station is located at Chetpet. This train station is located less than a kilometer south of Kilpauk. Nehru Park and Kilpauk (the entrance to Kilpauk Medical College) are the two metro stations that link to Kilpauk. Kilpauk is roughly 18 kilometers from the Chennai Airport.
Prior to India's independence, this location served as a British military cantonment. This area is currently referred to as "Little Korea" because of the Korean residents.
There is a historic water treatment facility in the neighborhood. Elizabeth II visited the Institute of Mental Health, one of the oldest mental hospitals on the continent, located on the opposite end

Among the many shopping centers and entertainment venues are the Gadget Mall, Nexus Vijaya Mall, and Spencer Plaza.
