Lively Kilpauk is a residential area featuring fast-food and Indian restaurants lining busy Ormes and Kilpauk Garden roads, as well as fashion and souvenir shops. The intricate Votive Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Roman Catholic church from the 1950s, and the Kilpauk Water Works is situated in a historic redbrick building in the colonial Indo-Gothic style. Basketball and karate tournaments are held in the Jayalalitha Indoor Stadium.

Prior to India's independence, this location served as a British military cantonment. This area is currently referred to as "Little Korea" because of the Korean residents.
